In
this Customer Showcase I want to highlight the use
of design resources in the advertising area.
Kat Ruiz owns Fly
Girl Media, specializing in business
cards, brochures, flyers, playbills, glamour &
fashion, and web design. Kat is a freelance designer
who focuses on a wide range of market niches for
sensitive services & product, including Spa,
Med Spa, Makeup Artists, Music & Film Artists,
Beauty, Entertainment Industry, Cosmetic Surgery,
Pet Spas, Fashion, Photography,Boutique and "girly
stuff".
This
large, eyecatching promo piece incorporates several
of my own products ("Drapes & Swags",
"Frippery", and "Parfumerie")
as well as elements Kat added, to create a complete
mood for sensitive services
I really like her philosophy of the use of derivative
design in the image resource industry and she has
expressed it best in her own words: I am a self
taught graphic and web designer from Miami.
I
am a self taught graphic and web designer from
Miami. My
love for web & graphics began 10 years ago.
I was a military wife, and wanted to start my
own business. I have been busy from that moment
on. When I discovered artists like Dana "Jaguarwoman"
I realized that I could make beautiful things
with other peoples artwork and still share respectfully
in the credit. I struggled a great deal with wanting
to always do my own original artwork and still
do from time to time. Dana's graphics are a big
part of my "secret weapon" my clients
LOVE when I use her artwork! I never thought that
by this kind of derivative use I would produce
such creative and beautiful designs. I have learned
a lot from Dana "Jaguarwoman" and other
artists like myself. "There is room of all
of us, and with respect and consideration we all
contribute to each other's great achievements."
(Kat

I
really like the way Kat combines many design elements
from different sources into her promotional pieces,
such as this one for the South
Florida Ballet Theater and this
event invitation for a Cosmetic Surgeon.
Her skillsets enable her to visually dramatize events
and services with evocative imagery. I'm always
thrilled to see my design resources used creatively
in other designer's small businesses to promote
causes and commercial endeavors.
Artful derivative design is what makes the image
resource industry go round and round in a healthy
exchange. It helps many small businesses showcase
themselves and stand out on the Internet, it helps
many designers make a living from their business.
And it makes the world easier on the eye.
You can see many more examples of Kat's advertising/promotional
design work at her website, FlyGirlMedia.
